The best piece of advice I have for you when choosing what to wear for your boudoir session is to try your outfits on and determine…how does this make me FEEL?
The energy you bring to your boudoir session is one of the most important parts of creating powerful photos and that begins with feeling good in the outfits you choose! So, no matter which direction you go, make sure to try on your outfits weeks in advance and ensure that you feel incredible in them.
With that being said, you want to be sure that your outfits complement your beauty in a way that doesn’t overpower you. Choosing pieces that are unflattering to your body type, a color that doesn’t complement your skin tone, or maybe just has a pattern that doesn’t photograph well, is going to take away from your natural beauty.
So, what are some pieces that you should wear for your boudoir session?
1. Bodysuits or Teddys
A good fitting bodysuit is flattering on all body types! While I know the temptation might be there to grab a babydoll, it will actually be less flattering on your body because of the fit. You don’t want to lose your figure in something that is too loose fitting. Also, both bodysuits and teddys create some of the most incredible detail photos!
2. Bra and Panty Set
While I know it may feel a bit out of your comfort zone to be this revealing, a good two piece set is always a good idea. Keep in mind your favorite body parts that you want to highlight during your session and make sure that your pieces are well fitting and supportive. You can play around between bralettes, thongs, cheeky underwear and more to find the perfect set for you!
3. Fishnets or Thigh Highs
This is an incredible way to bring a little spice into your photos! Both of these pieces bring detail to your legs which is so fun! Also, fishnets will slim and elongate your legs in such a beautiful way. One of my favorite combinations is a pair of fishnets with a crop tee shirt or tank top!
4. Heels
This is another simple way to elongate your legs. Heels are always flattering and will make your legs and butt look incredible! Make sure they are in good condition, without scuffs or dirt. And remember, you don’t actually have to walk around in them, so when in doubt, choose a higher heel!
5. Your birthday suit
If you’re unsure of what else to wear, going nude is a fabulous option! There’s just something special about having your body be the focus of your photos. Almost all of my clients who do shoot nude end up loving those photos the most! You can use a sheet to cover anything that you do not want exposed.
What colors of lingerie are the best?
Neutrals are a go-to for so many of my clients. Black is super popular and white is also classic. But, if you’re wanting to incorporate some color into your wardrobe, I always encourage the jewel tones. Emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and deep purples will look good on all skin tones! Be careful with any bright colors. Some will photograph well, while others may be too harsh against your skin tone or leave a weird color cast against your skin.
There are so many incredible places to shop for lingerie. Here’s a list of just a few of my favs!
